Our Product Support and Logistics Division (PSLD) is one of the most innovative divisions within Caterpillar. In PSLD, as within all of Caterpillar, our priority is our customers and helping them build a better world. We touch nearly every element of the services value stream. PSLD is responsible for Aftermarket Parts Distribution of Cat Parts, Integrated Logistics and Global Services supporting Caterpillar dealers and customers. Our teams work together in critical areas that leverage digital capabilities, technology and operational excellence.

As a Packaging Engineer, you will be responsible for designing and implementing packaging solutions that ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective distribution of aftermarket parts. Collaborates across packaging suppliers, operations, procurement, logistics, and product teams to improve customer experience, sustainability, quality, and supply chain performance.

Additional Information:

This role is located in Morton, IL and does not offer relocation.

This role is 1st shift, Monday – Friday.

This role is 100% on-site with no opportunity for hybrid or remote schedules.

This role requires up to 10% domestic travel.

What You Will Do:

Design, develop, and implement packaging solutions that protect aftermarket parts throughout storage, transportation, and distribution.

Lead packaging validation activities, including distribution, compression, environmental, and performance testing.

Support packaging design changes and improvements based on business and operational needs.

Plan and monitor packaging material inventory to support availability and business demand.

Coordinate with suppliers on packaging quality, material availability, and shipping performance.

Monitor supplier performance and address quality or delivery concerns as needed.

Partner with internal teams, suppliers, and warehouse providers to support the effective flow of packaging materials.

Balance packaging design requirements with inventory, supplier, and warehouse considerations.

- Accuracy and Attention to Detail: Understanding the necessity and value of accuracy; ability to complete tasks with high levels of precision.

- Analytical Thinking: Knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.

- Collaborating: Knowledge of collaborative techniques; ability to work with a variety of individuals and groups in a constructive and collaborative manner.

- Decision Making and Critical Thinking: Knowledge of the decision-making process and associated tools and techniques; ability to accurately analyze situations and reach productive decisions based on informed judgment.

- Effective Communications: Understanding of effective communication concepts, tools and techniques; ability to effectively transmit, receive, and accurately interpret ideas, information, and needs through the application of appropriate communication behaviors.

- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
- Previous packaging experience or a degree related to packaging
- Experience in supply chain or logistics
- Knowledge of forecasting, inventory management, and material availability
- Experience using digital tools and technology to analyze data, automate processes, and support decision-making

Summary Pay Range:

$89,210.00 - $133,810.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
