A Risk Identification & Audit Specialist at Electric Boat plays a key role in maintaining organizational resilience, ensuring that emerging risks are recognized early, assessed accurately, and mitigated effectively. This position centers on proactively identifying operational, regulatory, and quality‑related risks that could impact manufacturing, construction, or overhaul activities across the company.

This role affords the unique opportunity to work directly with all levels of management to develop, propose, and execute comprehensive audit and risk‑assessment plans. A successful candidate will embed themselves within production and technical communities, gaining deep insight into operations while building strong partnerships.

The Specialist must be an independent, analytical thinker, capable of reviewing technical documentation, processes, and in‑process work to identify key risk indicators. Curiosity, adaptability, and an eagerness to continually expand knowledge are essential.

By assembling observations, evaluating deficiencies, and identifying organizational vulnerabilities, the Risk Identification & Audit Specialist creates clear and actionable problem statements that drive meaningful risk‑mitigation strategies.

Specific Responsibilities Include:

Develop and maintain strong relationships with functional area leadership through regular touchpoints.

Stay informed on upcoming work to anticipate potential risk areas.

Conduct routine walkthroughs of workspaces to identify emerging risks in real time.

Perform ongoing surveillance of in‑process work and document detailed observations

Develop, execute, and refine risk‑based audit plans to ensure compliance with Government, regulatory, and internal requirements.

Identify operational, safety, regulatory, and quality risks, along with opportunities for improvement.

Conduct root‑cause analyses and risk assessments using structured methodologies.

Write and issue detailed audit and risk‑assessment reports; present findings to management; track commitments and verify implementation of corrective actions.

Interface regularly with Government representatives and all levels of management regarding risk trends and mitigation strategies.

Qualifications

Required:

Bachelor or Masters of Science Degree in one of the listed Engineering disciplines or equivalent: (Aerospace, Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Industrial, Marine, Mechanical, Systems, Nuclear, or Biomedical)

A minimum of 5 years of post graduate engineering experience

3+ years of experience in internal auditing, risk identification, risk assessment, or compliance within a private industry or manufacturing environment.

Prior experience in quality oversight, risk oversight, or regulatory roles.

Preferred:

Experience at Electric Boat (8+ years strongly preferred)

Experience in Electric Boat auditing functions

Experience in Electric Boat engineering functions

Demonstrated experience in risk assessment, risk analysis, and risk‑mitigation methodologies

Extensive quality and regulatory background

Advanced degree or professional certification (Lean Six Sigma certification)

Skills

Skills:

Understands and applies ISO standards to daily operations to maintain compliance and consistency.

Excellent interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.

Strong critical‑thinking ability with demonstrated capacity to identify trends, evaluate risks, perform root‑cause analysis, and recommend targeted improvements.

Proficiency in technical writing, documentation review, and risk‑reporting.

Strong familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).

Ability to perform work independently, professionally, and with strong judgment.

Ability to solve problems in a constructive manner.
