An autonomous aircraft flew in Utah
This week, we welcomed Joby Aviation as the company remotely operated its supervised autonomous J208 aircraft in Utah as part of its Electric Skies tour, a 5,541-nautical-mile journey across the country.
Flights like this give us real-world data to help answer important questions about how autonomous aircraft can safely operate in Utah, from infrastructure and operations to future standards and best practices.
That’s where uFLY comes in. Led by our team through an FAA pilot program, uFLY brings together five states to test and prepare for the safe integration of electric and advanced aircraft into our transportation and aviation systems.
The future of flight might sound far away, but it’s getting here quickly.
Our job is to be ready for it and make sure it’s safe.
Why this matters for talent
A Utah Department of Transportation post on the same Joby Aviation Electric Skies tour stop covered above: a 5,541 nautical mile cross country journey testing supervised autonomous flight through a five state FAA pilot program. The same hiring signal applies, Joby carries more than 150 open roles on the board, with flight operations and regulatory affairs the functions most likely to see near term demand.
