Electric air taxis are arriving in Florida
Today our aircraft flew from St. Petersburg to Tampa International Airport, retracing the first commercial flight in history, flown in 1914.
It opens a week of piloted eVTOL flights in partnership with Florida Department of Transportation across the first hubs of Florida's Aerial Highway Network: Tampa Bay, Orlando International and Kennedy Space Center.
These flights will give the FAA and our state partners operational data on airport integration, acoustics and vertiport procedures as we continue to move through FAA certification.
FDOT has spent years building the foundation for a statewide network of electric, vertical flight. This week, through the eIPP, we’re showing what that looks like in action: quiet, zero operating emissions aircraft connecting Florida’s cities, airports, and destinations in minutes.
Thank you to the Federal Aviation Administration, U.S. Department of Transportation, Secretary Sean Duffy, Governor Ron DeSantis and the entire FDOT team for making this week possible.
This is just the beginning of what Florida and Joby can build together.

Why this matters for talent
A week of piloted eVTOL flights across Tampa Bay, Orlando, and Kennedy Space Center under Florida's eIPP program is Joby collecting the airport integration and acoustics data the FAA needs for certification. That data-gathering phase typically runs alongside flight test and ground operations hiring. Joby carries around 170 open roles on the jobs board.
