Senior Frontend Engineer
About this role
1X is hiring a Senior Frontend Engineer, full-time, on-site in San Carlos, CA, in the ROBOTICS sector.
About 1X
We’re building humanoid robots that work in home - doing the chores, handling the tasks, and giving people their time back. Simple, but it’s not.
To do this right, we have to solve robotics, AI, manufacturing - at the same time, at scale, in a form factor that has to be safe enough to live with your family. If you’re inspired by this, you’ll thrive here. We’ve been at this since 2014 and we’re at the point where the hard problems are behind us and the hard work is in front of us.
NEO is our flagship - a home robot designed to move, learn, and operate in the real world alongside real people. We’re not demoing it - we’re shipping it. We’re excited to meet you, if this excites you.
If you’ve spent your career working on problems that matter and want to see them actually reach the world - this is that moment. We’re scaling, we’re hiring with intention, and we need people who want to build something that will genuinely change how humans spend their time - safely creating abundance for all.
About the Team
The Apps team builds software for users to control Neo and the systems that developers use to build their own apps. Mobile and web apps built by this team are used to deploy, monitor, and manage humanoid robots in the real world; provide operational visibility; and give consumers an easy way to use their Neo in their home.
Your Charter
Build customer frontend experiences, starting with the 1X fleet management platform. You will design and develop intuitive, high-performance web applications and work with the backend team to build flexible platform APIs for developer use. Key Competencies
Deep expertise building modern frontend applications with exceptional attention to usability and performance.
Strong understanding of frontend architecture, state management, and scalable application design.
Ability to simplify complex operational data into intuitive user experiences.
Excellent collaboration skills across software engineering, design, and product teams.
Comfortable leading technical initiatives and operating independently in a fast-moving startup environment.
Minimum Requirements
6+ years of professional frontend engineering experience developing complex web applications.
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
Strong proficiency with TypeScript, React, and modern frontend frameworks.
Experience building data-intensive dashboards, operational tooling, or enterprise web applications.
Experience integrating REST APIs, GraphQL, or real-time data streams into production applications.
Preferred Skills
Experience building fleet management, observability, monitoring, DevOps, cloud infrastructure, or operational tooling.
Experience with real-time data visualization using WebSockets, gRPC, or event-driven architectures.
Familiarity with robotics platforms, autonomous systems, IoT devices, or industrial automation.
Experience building reusable design systems and component libraries, including familiarity with mobile or cross-platform development.
Experience with cloud-native environments such as AWS, Kubernetes, or distributed systems.
What does a successful 1X Team Member look like:
Team members at 1X who thrive here are builders. They move fast, own their work completely, and treat time like it’s the one thing you can’t get back - because it is. They say what they mean, finish what they start, and hold themselves to a standard before anyone has to ask. We push each other to be better, and we do it with honesty and respect.
