About this role

Ambi Robotics is hiring a Senior Project Engineer - Mechanical Systems, full-time, on-site in Berkeley, California, in the ROBOTICS sector.

We are a well-funded Series A startup on a mission to make e-commerce logistics more human-friendly and efficient with AI-powered robotics. Founded by leading robotics researchers, we are growing our team of dynamic and compassionate tech enthusiasts to deploy human-centered robots at scale. Join us in helping people handle more throughout the supply chain! We are seeking a Senior Project Engineer - Mechanical Systems to help us design, build, and support scalable robotic systems that empower people to handle more. In this role you will work closely with the VP of Hardware.

In this role you will:

  • Own customer-specific robotic system deployments end to end, from initial requirements and concept through shipment and installation support
  • Turn loose or incomplete customer requirements into a concrete engineering plan, identifying missing information, interface risks, and blockers early
  • Develop complete, accurate, installation-ready system layouts and detailed designs in Onshape
  • Create and maintain assemblies, drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing and installation documentation
  • Drive procurement, vendor coordination, kitting, and production so every project is complete and ready to ship on schedule
  • Coordinate mechanical, electrical, controls, facility, and deployment interfaces in partnership with Engineering, Product, Sales, Operations, and customers
  • Use sound judgment to choose simple, proven solutions over unnecessary custom engineering, and know when to pull in additional engineering expertise
  • Improve the scalability of customer engineering by turning recurring project needs into reusable components, templates, standards, and processes

You are a good fit if you have:

  • Eagerness to learn, solve challenging problems, and lead with curiosity
  • A desire for career growth and ownership of your work, with a track record of driving projects through physical completion rather than stopping at design release
  • A mechanical engineering background or equivalent experience, with strong mechanical intuition and a solid understanding of physical equipment and interfaces
  • Proficiency in CAD-based mechanical design and system layout (Onshape preferred), including creating assemblies, drawings, BOMs, and manufacturing or installation documentation
  • Experience managing technical projects with multiple dependencies and deadlines, with the organization and extreme attention to detail to keep procurement, open items, and schedules on track across several projects at once
  • Strong communication skills that make technical information clear to engineers and non-engineers alike, plus comfort working directly with vendors and supporting procurement
  • Strong spreadsheet and data-organization skills, and a pragmatic, process-driven approach to following and improving repeatable engineering processes
  • Comfort with ambiguity and the ability to work well under pressure while maintaining high standards
  • (BONUS) Experience as a Project, Applications, Systems, or Integration Engineer or similar role
  • (BONUS) Experience with industrial automation, robotics, material handling, conveyor systems, packaging equipment, or other engineered-to-order machinery

In addition to competitive compensation, we offer benefits such as:

  • Health, dental, and vision insurance
  • 401k with 5% matching by Ambi
  • Equity ownership
  • Unlimited PTO
  • Partial WFH
  • Free parking on site at HQ
  • Access to a full gym at HQ
  • Free lunches 2x per week

PLEASE NOTE:

  • All applications must be submitted online for equitable review. We do not accept or review submissions sent via email, including to individual team members or engineers. This policy ensures a fair and streamlined process for everyone.

FOR RECRUITERS:

  • This position is direct-hire only; unsolicited resumes from recruiters will not be considered and may result in a fee waiver.
