Controls & Harness Fabrication Manager

Job Description

The Controls Architecture & Fabrication organization is responsible for delivering reliable, high-performance instrumentation and controls (I&C) infrastructure that enables safe and continuous spaceflight operations. This position supports that mission by leading an in-house fabrication shop that builds control panels, electrical enclosures, and cable harnesses for ground systems, test assets, and launch facilities across multiple Blue Origin sites.

As part of a highly skilled team, you will manage and lead a productionized I&C fabrication operation — driving the shop from intake through build, test, and delivery. Your leadership will directly influence build quality, production throughput, and the overall success of launch and test system readiness.

Key Responsibilities

Production Operations. Lead technicians and shift leads in day-to-day fabrication of I&C control panels, cable harnesses, and electrical enclosures — with a strong focus on safety, quality, and schedule. Oversee and optimize a multi-station shop, establishing production workflows for repeatable, high-quality output. Plan and assign work across shifts including station assignments, overtime, and backup coverage.

Quality & Standards. Ensure all work is performed per approved procedures, work instructions, drawings, BOMs, and safety/quality requirements. Provide hands-on technical support for panel wiring, harness fabrication, checkout, and troubleshooting as needed. Maintain clean, organized, compliant work areas (5S, tool/FOD control).

Material & Work Order Management. Manage the complete work order lifecycle within ERP/MRP systems — creation, release, tracking, and closure. Ensure accurate and timely material transactions including issues, transfers, receipts, returns, and inventory adjustments to support production schedules, traceability, and operational efficiency.

People Leadership. Hire, onboard, train, and develop team members. Conduct regular performance check-ins and annual reviews; coach and mentor at all levels. Lead team growth through interviewing, recognition, and building long-term team capability.

Communication & Planning. Serve as the stakeholder interface during new project intake, production scheduling, and delivery closeout. Communicate work status, issues, and risks clearly to leadership and partner teams (engineering, planning, logistics, safety, quality). Support workforce planning, budget inputs, and resource forecasting.

Safety & Continuous Improvement. Drive a strong safety culture — identify hazards, support incident investigations, and implement corrective actions. Identify and implement improvements to increase safety, quality, efficiency, and repeatability across the shop.

Culture Statement

Don’t meet all desired requirements? Studies have shown that some people are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single desired qualification. At Blue Origin, we are dedicated to building an authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every desired qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
