About this role

Blue Origin is hiring a Sr. Systems Engineer — Systems & Engineering Operations, Lunar HLS, full-time, on-site in 2 Locations, in the Aerospace sector.

Application close date:
Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis until the requisition is closed.

At Blue Origin, we envision millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth. We’re working to develop reusable, safe, and low-cost space vehicles and systems within a culture of safety, collaboration, and inclusion. Join our team of problem solvers as we add new chapters to the history of spaceflight!

This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface.

- As part of a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers, you will help define Blue Origin's Human Landing System (HLS) — the lander that will carry astronauts to the surface of the Moon and return them safely to Orion. This is a dual-hatted role on the System Definition & Certification team. On one side you ensure program technical needs are successfully executed — gathering and integrating input across the vehicle teams and carrying it to the organizations that build and operate that supporting infrastructure and driving those projects to cost and schedule while keeping the program's technical engine running: reviews well-executed, data organized and accessible, progress visible and executable. On the other you contribute to the requirements, safety, and verification baseline that proves the vehicle is safe to fly crew. Emphasis shifts between the two as program priorities ebb and flow, so this role suits someone energized by both and comfortable moving between them. Both halves reward the same instinct: we favor lean, tool-driven workflows over moving data by hand, and we would rather build the tool that removes the busywork than staff it. You will be the person who makes technical status legible to leadership and helps mold the baseline that status is measured against.

Special Mentions

- Relocation provided
- Travel expected up to 25% of the time

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

- Participate in requirements, verification & validation planning, and in anomaly investigation and root-cause analysis when the vehicle does not behave as designed- Review the deliverables of others for subtle flaws and gaps, not just surface correctness
- Develop the technical requirements that major program projects must meet — translating what the vehicles need from the ground systems, test capabilities, and supporting infrastructure into clear requirements — by gathering and integrating input across the vehicle teams, and serving as the flight-side interface that carries those requirements to the organizations that deliver them
- Develop and refine operational and project-execution processes that improve efficiency and team communication
- Plan and execute major program milestones — such as CDR — including readiness tracking, entrance/exit criteria, scheduling, and logistics coordination
- Maintain and improve customer interactions, review processes, procedures, and documentation standards for Lunar programs
- Own technical progress tracking and burndown across the program — decision tickets, TPMs, and curated views that make status executable in daily standups and program meetings

Minimum Qualifications

- B.S. in aerospace, systems, or a related engineering field (M.S. preferred); an advanced degree may substitute for a portion of the experience requirement
- 8+ years of relevant systems engineering and/or engineering-operations experience in a technical field with complex regulatory environment (aerospace, defense, nuclear, etc.)
- Experience developing requirements, safety, and V&V baseline in a systems-engineering context
- Experience planning and executing projects to cost and schedule — milestones, risk, and cross-team coordination
- Track record of building lean, tool-driven processes and earning their adoption without relying on direct authority
- Working fluency with SE and program tooling (e.g., Jama, Cameo, Windchill, DOORS, Jira, Confluence) and the judgment to drive tool decisions that reduce manual effort
- Strong stakeholder management skills; comfortable working across engineering, program, and leadership levels
- Ability to identify gaps in processes and independently develop and implement solutions
- Must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Preferred Qualifications

- Advanced degree in an engineering or technical discipline
- Human spaceflight, crewed vehicle, launch vehicle, or other complex integrated-system experience; including demonstrated ownership of complex, cross-functional operational processes with minimal direction
- Demonstrated experience leading or co-leading formal engineering reviews and managing the associated documentation, artifact, and customer contractual requirements
- Experience from another safety-critical or regulated industry (e.g., medical devices, commercial aviation, nuclear, automotive) supporting the requirements, verification, or safety baseline for a major product area
- Experience as a customer-facing technical interface (NASA or a comparable government/prime customer)
- History of introducing tools or methods adopted at scale that measurably cut cycle time or error rate

Base Pay Range for:
CO applicants is $133,500.00 - $186,898.95
WA applicants is $145,188.00 - $203,263.20
