Atlas Data Operations Curriculum Designer
About this role
Boston Dynamics is hiring a Atlas Data Operations Curriculum Designer, full-time, on-site in 2 Locations, in the INDUSTRIAL sector.
Boston Dynamics is a world leader in mobile robots, tackling some of the toughest robotics challenges. We combine the principles of dynamic control and balance with sophisticated mechanical designs, cutting-edge electronics, and next-generation software for high-performance robots equipped with perception, navigation, and intelligence.
The Atlas Data Operations team is seeking a technically-minded Curriculum Designer to partner with the Atlas Behavior team in designing the data collection tasks used to train Atlas's autonomous policies. This role touches new Atlas behaviors from end to end, from intake through completion — ensuring every dataset is delivered on time with the quality of demonstration data Behavior needs to train Atlas to work autonomously.
*****Fully onsite in Waltham, MA
Schedule/Working Hours:
- Monday – Friday: 40 hours per week, regular hours (e.g., 9 AM to 6 PM).
- Periodic flexibility is required to cover first and second shift or provide off-hours support to maintain continuous operations.
Core Responsibilities
Curriculum Design & Planning
- Partner with the Atlas Behavior team to translate policy training goals into concrete data collection tasks for robot pilots.
- Own and run the curriculum planning meeting, aligning Data Ops and Behavior stakeholders on upcoming task priorities and resourcing needs.
- Intake new curriculum requests from Behavior and other partner teams; clarify scope, requirements, and success criteria before tasks enter the backlog.
- Prioritize and sequence the curriculum backlog based on Behavior team priorities, pilot availability, and prop/equipment readiness.
- Create and maintain task playbooks — including props, pilot documentation, assistant documentation, and robot software configuration — ensuring every task is fully ready before it reaches pilots.
- Track completion of curriculum requests against requested volume (hours or episodes), and report progress to Behavior and Data Ops stakeholders.
- Identify and escalate blockers — prop shortages, unclear task specs, pilot capacity — that put completion timelines at risk.
Quality Control & Pilot Coaching
- Monitor quality control of pilot demonstrations, identifying trends, errors, and technique gaps.
- Partner with the annotation team to surface poor piloting techniques or systemic quality issues in collected data.
- Coach robot pilots directly, providing feedback on best techniques and practices, and codify those techniques into playbooks and training documentation.
- Perform periodic pilot skills assessments to identify systemic gaps and feed findings into the ADOPS Pilot Training and Onboarding program.
Operational Logistics
- Maintain inventory and demand forecasting for curriculum props; purchase and stage props and other required equipment to ensure Data Ops is never blocked by lack of materials.
- Maintain the change control process for curriculum documentation, ensuring playbooks stay current as tasks and robot configurations evolve.
Key Attributes
- Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, with the ability to manage a fast-moving backlog across multiple stakeholders.
- Strong coaching instincts — able to give direct, actionable feedback that improves pilot technique.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, comfortable running meetings and translating between technical and operational (pilot) audiences.
- Proactive, self-directed problem-solver who anticipates blockers before they stall data collection.
- Reliable and punctual, with a strong commitment to structured process and accurate documentation.
This is an opportunity to step into a high-impact, highly visible role where your decisions directly shape the supply chain behind some of the most innovative robotics systems in the world.
