Data Engineering & Architecture Manager
About this role
General Dynamics Electric Boat is hiring a Data Engineering & Architecture Manager, full-time, on-site in Groton, CT, in the Electric Marine sector.
Overview
We are looking for a Data Architecture Manager to help lead Electric Boat’s transformation toward a modern, scalable, AI‑ready data ecosystem. This is not a role focused solely on creating data models or maintaining existing data structures. Instead, we need a leader who can bridge our current environment and our future state—someone who understands how to work within a complex legacy landscape while designing and implementing a modern data foundation that supports analytics, AI, automation, and next‑generation applications.
This position requires a forward‑thinking architect who can balance pragmatism with innovation: knowing when to modernize, when to integrate, and when to redesign—while ensuring stability for mission‑critical operations. The ideal candidate is comfortable navigating a large enterprise, influencing across organizational boundaries, and translating business goals into practical, actionable technology and architecture decisions.
Key Responsibilities:
Enterprise Data Architecture & Strategy
Develop and evolve the enterprise data architecture strategy in alignment with business and technology objectives.
Define target-state data architecture and practical transition paths from current to future-state environments.
Establish architecture principles, standards, patterns, and governance that promote scalable, consistent, and secure data solutions.
Build the Foundation for AI and Advanced Analytics
Define the data architecture required to support the organization’s AI and machine-learning strategy.
Help establish trusted, accessible, well-governed data that can be effectively used by analytics and AI teams.
Partner with data science, AI, product, and business teams to understand emerging data requirements.
Evaluate new technologies and architectural approaches for data platforms, AI, real-time data, data products, and analytics.
Help ensure that data is discoverable, appropriately governed, secure, and usable across the enterprise.
Lead and Develop a Team
Build, lead, and mentor the Data Architecture team, advancing EB’s modeling, ontology, integration, and metadata capabilities.
Provide clear direction while empowering architects and engineers to solve complex problems.
Qualifications
Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Information Technology, or Engineering
Significant experience in data architecture, enterprise architecture, data engineering, or a related technology discipline.
8+ years of experience in IT, data-focused technical roles, or enterprise systems.
4+ years of supervisory experience
Experience partnering across enterprise, solution, application, infrastructure, security, and AI architecture domains.
Experience developing enterprise data strategies and multi‑year technology roadmaps.
Ability to obtain and maintain a Secret security
Preferred:
Experience with modern data platforms, data lakes/lakehouses, streaming architectures, APIs, and event‑driven architectures.
Experience supporting AI/ML, generative AI, or advanced analytics initiatives.
Experience with data governance, data quality, metadata, master data, and information management.
Experience with semantic layers, ontology development, or enterprise modeling.
Experience working in complex, highly regulated enterprise environments.
Experience with cloud‑based data platforms and modern data architecture patterns.
Experience defining target‑state architectures and building transition roadmaps.
