About this role

General Motors is hiring a Staff Product Manager – In-Vehicle Privacy & Authentication, full-time, on-site in 2 Locations, in the EV sector.

Job Description

At General Motors, our product teams are redefining mobility. Through a human-centered design process, we create vehicles and experiences that are designed not just to be seen, but to be felt. We’re turning today’s impossible into tomorrow’s standard — from breakthrough hardware and battery systems to intuitive design, intelligent software, and next-generation safety and entertainment features. Every day, our products move millions of people as we aim to make driving safer, smarter, and more connected, shaping the future of transportation on a global scale.

The role

As Staff Product Manager – In-Vehicle Privacy & Authentication, you will define the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for how customers understand, control, and protect their personal information and identity inside the vehicle.

This role brings together two foundational parts of the in-vehicle experience:

- Privacy: clear consent, privacy education, privacy settings, temporary privacy modes, customer data requests, and compliance with applicable privacy requirements.
- Identity and authentication: driver and passenger recognition, in-vehicle profiles, digital-key and key-fob linking, near-field communication access, profile security, PINs, and secure access to personalized experiences.

You will create simple, consistent experiences across the vehicle display, mobile app, customer account, Digital Key, OnStar, Google built-in services, and other connected services. You will set long-term direction while also driving complex initiatives from product definition through delivery, launch, and continuous improvement.

What you’ll do

Own the product vision and strategy

- Define and communicate the product vision for in-vehicle privacy, identity, driver and passenger recognition, and authentication.
- Establish simple, consistent approaches to trust, consent, personalization, profile protection, and secure vehicle access across GM vehicles.
- Translate customer needs, research, privacy requirements, security considerations, and technical constraints into clear product direction.
- Create a roadmap that works across current and next-generation vehicle systems.

Lead the in-vehicle privacy experience

- Own the strategy for a clear, easy-to-find, and customer-centered in-vehicle privacy experience.
- Define the evolution from scattered privacy controls toward a GM-owned vehicle privacy center with privacy education, detailed settings, temporary privacy modes, and customer data request capabilities.
- Lead consent experiences that explain in plain language the customer benefit, what information is used, how it is used, how the customer can control it, and what happens if they decline.
- Define temporary privacy controls that protect location, personal information, camera and voice-related experiences, and mobile access without unnecessarily changing a customer’s everyday preferences.
- Drive alignment on consumer privacy, data protection, and anti-stalking requirements.
- Partner with legal, privacy, security, safety, design, engineering, OnStar, mobile, and connected-service teams to close policy, data, consent, and implementation gaps.

Lead identity, driver recognition, and authentication

- Define the product strategy for driver and passenger profiles that make the in-vehicle experience personal, secure, and easy to use.
- Establish how digital keys, key fobs, NFC-enabled devices or cards, manual selection, and other recognition signals identify the appropriate driver or passenger.
- Define experiences for multiple detected devices, unrecognized devices, guest use, profile switching, and situations where the system cannot confidently identify the driver.
- Lead the experience for linking and unlinking digital keys, key fobs, and NFC-enabled devices or cards to customer profiles.
- Define secure profile access and additional authentication using PINs, patterns, mobile confirmation, biometrics, or other approved methods.
- Shape the relationship between profile protection, vehicle PIN security, vehicle access, theft deterrence, valet mode, teen-driver experiences, emergency interactions, and other driving situations.
- Ensure customers can understand when they have been recognized, verify or correct the active profile, recover from an unrecognized device, and avoid exposing another driver’s personal information.
- Coordinate with vehicle access, identity, security, mobile, OnStar, Google, and vehicle-system teams to create clear, end-to-end experiences.

Drive execution across a complex product ecosystem

- Lead discovery, prioritization, and delivery for capabilities spanning the vehicle, mobile app, cloud services, customer account, and partner services.
- Create and maintain product roadmaps, priorities, detailed product plans, and launch plans.
- Define clear decisions and responsibilities across product, engineering, user experience, human factors, testing, legal, privacy, security, safety, marketing, and program management teams.
- Drive decisions on scope, sequencing, tradeoffs, dependencies, risks, and launch readiness across multiple vehicle programs and software versions.
- Build alignment with senior leaders and influence teams without direct authority in a complex organization.
- Ensure customer-facing content and interaction patterns are clear, consistent, accessible, localized, and appropriate for the context of driving.
- Lead post-launch evaluation and continuous improvement using customer feedback, research, product usage data, support signals, and operational data.

Define success and maintain consistency

- Establish success measures for privacy understanding, confidence in privacy controls, awareness of the vehicle privacy center, meaningful privacy actions, content readability, and compliance.
- Define identity and authentication measures such as recognition speed, recognition accuracy, profile-loading performance, manual profile switching, guest-profile selection, device-linking success, security-prompt completion, and authentication failures.
- Use data and customer insight to identify friction, privacy risk, incorrect recognition, unauthorized-access risk, and opportunities to simplify the experience.
- Maintain consistent privacy, identity, authentication, and personalization experiences as new features, laws, vehicle systems, and partner capabilities are introduced.

Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications)

- 7+ years of product management experience in digital products, connected services, software platforms, or complex customer experiences.
- At least 3 years of experience in automotive, in-vehicle interfaces, human-machine interaction, identity, authentication, privacy, cybersecurity, or related products.
- Demonstrated experience translating customer research, privacy requirements, security considerations, and technical constraints into product strategy and detailed product plans.
- Experience leading teams across product, engineering, user experience, human factors, testing, legal, privacy, security, safety, and program management.
- Experience managing roadmaps, priorities, dependencies, and launch execution.
- Strong understanding of customer identity, account relationships, authentication, authorization, personalization, consent, and data privacy concepts.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain complex technical and policy topics to executives, designers, engineers, legal partners, and customers.
- Demonstrated ability to influence, resolve conflict, build consensus, and drive outcomes in a complex organization.
- Data-driven decision-making skills, including the ability to define and use success measures, product usage data, research, and customer insights.
