Facility Engineer
About this role
Hadrian is hiring a Facility Engineer, full-time, on-site in Cherokee, AL, in the Aerospace sector.
Hadrian - Manufacturing the Future
Hadrian is building autonomous factories to reindustrialize America. By combining AI, advanced software, robotics, and full-stack manufacturing, we help aerospace and defense companies build rockets, satellites, aircraft, ships, and other mission-critical systems up to 10x faster and at significantly lower cost.
Following our $1.37B Series D at a $7.87B valuation, Hadrian is rapidly expanding our manufacturing footprint, launching new capabilities across welding, casting, forging, electronics, additive manufacturing, and more, while scaling our Factory-as-a-Service platform to transform how critical products are built.
Backed by leading investors including JPMorgan Chase, Valor Equity Partners, Andreessen Horowitz, Founders Fund, 137 Ventures, Lux Capital, T. Rowe Price, and Morgan Stanley, we’re building the future of American manufacturing—and looking for exceptional people to help make it happen.
If you’re ready to take on the most challenging and rewarding work of your career while helping create American manufacturing jobs for generations to come, you’re exactly who we’re looking for.
We are seeking a hands-on Facility Engineer to support the construction, equipment installation, commissioning, startup, and long-term operation of a large-scale advanced manufacturing facility.
This position will serve as a key technical interface between Facilities, Construction, Engineering, equipment teams, contractors, and operations. The Facility Engineer will provide field-level engineering oversight of facility infrastructure and utility installations while ensuring systems are installed safely, correctly, and in accordance with design requirements and company standards.
During the facility startup phase, a significant portion of this role will focus on supporting equipment move-in, coordinating utility requirements, inspecting contractor installations, verifying installation quality, resolving field issues, and ensuring systems are ready for commissioning and production.
As the facility transitions into full operation, the position will shift toward system ownership, reliability, preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, continuous improvement, and capital project support.
Key Responsibilities
Provide engineering oversight for facility infrastructure and critical utility systems supporting manufacturing operations.
Support equipment move-in and installation by coordinating facility utility requirements, connection points, schedules, contractor activities, and system readiness.
Review and verify contractor installation of process water, compressed air, industrial gases, plumbing, HVAC, mechanical piping, and other facility utility systems.
Identify installation deficiencies before systems are placed into service and coordinate corrective actions with contractors and project teams.
Participate in system walkdowns, punch-list development, commissioning, startup, testing, and turnover activities.
Support construction-to-operations turnover and ensure appropriate documentation, drawings, equipment information, and maintenance requirements are captured.
Coordinate closely with electrical, mechanical, controls, construction, manufacturing, and equipment engineering teams.
Provide engineering support for HVAC systems, chillers, cooling towers, compressed air systems, industrial gas systems, process utilities, plumbing, fire protection, emergency power, and Building Management Systems (BMS).
Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance strategies for facility equipment.
Perform root cause analysis for equipment and system failures and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
Ensure contractors comply with site safety requirements, work procedures, specifications, and quality expectations.
Utilize CMMS/ERP systems for work management, purchasing, project tracking, equipment records, and preventive maintenance.
Participate in safety audits, facility inspections, incident investigations, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Support operational readiness activities as the facility transitions from construction and commissioning into full-scale production.
Required Qualifications
Strong hands-on technical experience with industrial facility infrastructure, utilities, manufacturing equipment support, construction, commissioning, maintenance, or a related field.
Experience working in a large industrial or manufacturing environment.
Working knowledge of mechanical utility systems such as compressed air, chilled water, cooling water, HVAC, plumbing, industrial gases, and process piping.
Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, P&IDs, equipment documentation, specifications, and technical manuals.
Experience coordinating contractors, vendors, maintenance teams, or construction activities.
Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
Understanding of industrial safety practices including Lockout/Tagout, confined space, hot work, line breaks, and contractor safety.
Ability to work effectively in both an active construction environment and an operating manufacturing facility.
Strong communication and organizational skills with the ability to coordinate across multiple engineering and operations teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Experience supporting a greenfield or major manufacturing facility startup.
Experience with equipment/tool move-in and utility connection coordination.
Experience with commissioning and operational readiness.
Experience performing construction quality inspections and system walkdowns.
Knowledge of Building Management Systems (BMS) and facility controls.
Experience with chillers, cooling towers, air compressors, HVAC/CRAC systems, industrial gases, emergency generators, electrical distribution, and fire protection systems.
Experience with SAP, Oracle, CMMS, or similar maintenance and enterprise systems.
Experience developing preventive maintenance programs and reliability improvements.
OSHA, HAZMAT, First Aid/CPR, Lockout/Tagout, confined-space, rigging, or similar industrial safety training is preferred.
What Success Looks Like
The successful Facility Engineer will be highly visible in the field and actively involved in installation, commissioning, and startup—not simply reviewing work from an office.
During construction and equipment installation, success means catching problems before they become operational failures, ensuring contractors deliver quality installations, and making sure facility utilities are ready when manufacturing equipment needs them.
Once production begins, success means taking ownership of facility systems, improving reliability, reducing downtime, developing effective maintenance strategies, and ensuring the infrastructure supporting manufacturing remains safe, reliable, and capable of meeting production demands.
