About this role

Hermeus is hiring a Avionics Electrical Engineer, full-time, on-site in Atlanta, GA, in the Aerospace sector.

Hermeus is a venture-backed defense aviation company reclaiming the lost art of rapid iterative prototyping to build the fastest aircraft in the world today. By prioritizing relentless hardware iteration, we deliver high-speed systems at the pace of the modern battlefield. We work with the Department of War to provide the high-speed capabilities our nation and its allies need to maintain a durable, asymmetric advantage.

About The Role:

Hermeus is looking for an Avionics Electrical Engineer to design, integrate, test, and own electrical and avionics systems across our aircraft and ground systems.

This is a hands-on, cross-functional role supporting areas including power distribution, embedded computing, instrumentation, communications, RF systems, flight software, test, manufacturing, and vehicle integration. You will own electrical hardware while also understanding how that hardware interacts with the broader avionics architecture and performs at the subsystem and integrated vehicle level.

We are hiring this position at multiple levels and are open to engineers ranging from early-career candidates with strong hands-on experience to senior engineers capable of independently owning complex avionics systems.

Responsibilities:

    • Design, analyze, integrate, and test avionics and electrical systems for flight vehicles, ground test assets, and supporting infrastructure.

    • Own electrical hardware through the full development lifecycle, from requirements and architecture through component selection, integration, verification, troubleshooting, and vehicle-level testing.

    • Develop and integrate systems involving embedded compute, sensors, instrumentation, power distribution, communications, and other avionics hardware.

    • Evaluate and integrate commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) and custom hardware based on system requirements, performance, reliability, and integration constraints.

    • Ensure electrical designs integrate successfully across subsystem boundaries, including interfaces with flight software, GNC, mechanical systems, propulsion, test, and manufacturing.

    • Develop test plans, test setups, and procedures to verify electrical hardware at the component, subsystem, and integrated-system level.

    • Troubleshoot electrical, communications, power, and integration issues using lab equipment, software tools, and hands-on hardware debugging.

    • Support aircraft build, integration, ground testing, and flight-test activities.

    • Contribute to avionics architecture, engineering standards, design reviews, and technical decision-making as your experience level grows.

Requirements:

    • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent practical experience.

    • Hands-on engineering experience in one or more of the following areas:

    • Avionics or electrical system integration

    • Embedded computing and electronics

    • Electrical hardware design

    • Power distribution and DC power systems

    • Instrumentation and signal conditioning

    • Digital communications and data buses

    • Analog or mixed-signal electronics

    • Harnessing and electrical interconnects

    • Hardware verification, validation, and test

    • Experience building, testing, troubleshooting, or integrating real hardware.

    • Ability to work across electrical, mechanical, software, test, and systems engineering disciplines.

    • Strong technical troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

    • Willingness to work hands-on with hardware in a fast-paced development and test environment.

    • Ability to travel on short notice to support integration and test campaigns.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

    • Experience developing or integrating avionics, aerospace, defense, robotics, automotive, or other complex electromechanical systems.

    • Experience owning hardware from initial requirements through integration, qualification, and operational use.

    • Experience with embedded processors, controllers, sensors, GPS/INS systems, communications hardware, or other avionics devices.

    • Experience with communication interfaces and protocols such as CAN, Ethernet, RS-232/422/485, ARINC, SPI, I2C, or similar.

    • Experience with computer networking, TCP/IP and UDP communications

    • Experience with electrical power systems including batteries, converters, power distribution, motors, generators, or high-current DC systems.

    • Experience with electrical test equipment such as oscilloscopes, DMMs, logic analyzers, power supplies, electronic loads, and network analyzers.

    • Experience with electrical and engineering tools such as Altium Designer, SPICE, Siemens NX, Teamcenter, Git, MATLAB/Simulink, or similar.

    • Experience with environmental qualification, electromagnetic compatibility, hardware-in-the-loop testing, or flight testing.

    • Familiarity with aerospace or defense standards such as DO-160, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-704, MIL-STD-461/464, IPC/WHMA-A-620, or similar.

    • Experience working directly with manufacturing, technicians, vendors, and test teams to bring hardware from design into operation.

    • Experience with Python or equivalent for data analysis, lab equipment connectivity

    • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related discipline.

The salary range listed for this role is intended as a general guideline. Final compensation will be determined based on a variety of factors, including role scope and responsibilities, relevant experience, education and training, key skills, market data, and business needs.

At Hermeus, compensation is only one part of our total rewards package. We offer competitive pay, equity, and a range of benefits designed to support our team.

Benefits:

  • Health & Wellness: 100% employer-paid healthcare and pet insurance
  • Financial: Competitive pay, stock options, 401(k) retirement plan, and potential year-end bonuses
