JOB SUMMARY

We are looking for a CAD Drafter – Electrical Harness Design within the Systems Engineering Harness Design Group to support the creation and revisions of electrical harness design and documentation. This role will focus primarily on converting raw engineering information, such as pinout definitions, port-to-port connectivity, wire specifications, and engineering notes into clear, controlled harness documentation and work instructions suitable for release through our ECO process.

The ideal candidate has a strong technical writing and electrical documentation background, with electrical engineering knowledge to understand harness design intent, including power distribution, communications interfaces, signal types, wire gauge, shielding, connectors, and related electrical requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Convert raw pinout, connector, and port-to-port definitions into clear and standardized electrical harness documentation.
  • Create and maintain harness drawings, wiring documentation, tables, and manufacturing/work instructions.
  • Clean up and standardize an existing backlog of engineering harness drawings in preparation for ISO and quality audits.
  • Prepare documentation packages so they are ready for upload and release in Duro through the Engineering Change Order (ECO) process.
  • Support ECO documentation by providing accurate, complete, and revision-controlled source material.
  • Work with engineers to resolve missing, inconsistent, or unclear harness information.
  • Ensure documentation is easy for manufacturing, technicians, quality, and engineering teams to interpret and use.
  • Maintain consistent documentation standards across harnesses and assemblies.
  • Address ECO rejections by coordinating with other engineers to update the affected drawings, BOM, work instructions, or supporting documentation as needed.
  • Create complete, production-ready harness build documentation in Altium or other approved formats such as wiring diagrams or block diagrams, with the goal that an in-house technician or external harness manufacturing vendor can build the harness accurately without requiring additional clarification from engineering.
  • Translate engineering definitions - including pinouts, port-to-port connectivity, connector definitions, wire requirements, and other design inputs into clear and unambiguous harness drawings and work instructions.
  • Create and maintain the harness Bill of Materials (BOM) as part of the work instructions, including connectors, contacts, wire, terminals, backshells, labels, sleeving, and other required harness components based on the engineering definition.
  • Own the documentation completeness of the harness package, ensuring that drawings, BOMs, work instructions, and supporting information contain everything necessary for procurement, fabrication, inspection, and assembly.

Required Skills and Experience

  • Background in electrical engineering, systems engineering, electrical drafting, technical documentation, or a related discipline.
  • Working knowledge of electrical harnesses and wiring, including connectors, pinouts, power, communications, wire gauge, shielding, and signal routing.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills with excellent attention to detail.
  • Ability to take incomplete or engineering-oriented source information and turn it into clean, production-ready documentation.
  • Familiarity with engineering change control and ECO processes is beneficial.
  • Experience with Altium Designer is highly desirable.
  • Experience with PLM/document-control systems such as Duro is a plus.
  • Familiarity with ISO-controlled engineering documentation or quality-management environments is beneficial.
  • Proficient in MS Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Altium. Desired: SolidWorks, Lucid.
  • Ability to work independently.

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Previous experience working on DoD and other USG development and deployment programs.
  • Ability to hold and maintain a USG Security Clearance.

Education & Work Experience:

  • Associates in CAD or BS degree in Engineering, or a closely related discipline.
  • 2+ year relevant experience.

Compensation:

Annual Base Salary Range: $95,000.00 - $120,000.00/per year

Base pay is one part of our total compensation package (base+bonus+equity) and is determined within a range. Your actual base salary will be determined on job-related knowledge and skills, education, experience, and location. Our benefit plans include medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401k retirement plan, short and long term disability and life insurance. We also offer flexible PTO, along with 11 paid holidays, sick time and paid parental leave.

This is a full-time position in San Jose, California. This position requires access to export-controlled commodities, technical data, technology, software, and services. U.S. citizenship, U.S. legal permanent resident status, or protected person status under 8 U.S.C. § 1324b(a)(3) is required.
