About You and The Role

Please Note: The Zipline SkillBridge program provides transitioning service members the opportunity to gain work experience through an internship during their final 180 days of service. Zipline offers both structured instruction and on-the-job training through a 3-4 month internship.

This is not a general employment opportunity. This role is only open to active-duty U.S. military service members who have been approved (or are eligible for approval) to participate in the DoW SkillBridge program. Applications from candidates who are not SkillBridge-eligible cannot be considered.

The Field Construction Specialist owns the on-site execution required to ensure installation locations are correctly identified, properly prepared, and built to spec. This includes site verification, ground preparation, and installation of structural base components.

This is a hands-on role requiring strong construction fundamentals, attention to detail, and the ability to operate independently in the field.

What You'll Do

  • Prepare sites for installation, including:
    • Excavation and grading
    • Base preparation (sand, pavers, or concrete)
    • Leveling and compaction
  • Install and level steel base plates (~700 lbs) to specification
  • Anchor plates using appropriate hardware and methods
  • Install anchor rods and safety fixtures following installation
  • Execute different installation methods depending on site conditions:
    • Soil excavation and paver systems
    • Concrete slab pours (including rebar placement)
    • Modifications to existing concrete or asphalt
  • Ensure all work is:
    • Level
    • Aligned to spec
    • Safe and secure
  • Set up temporary safety measures (cones, barriers, fixtures)
  • Identify and resolve issues in the field, including:
    • Site discrepancies
    • Ground condition challenges
    • Minor design or fitment issues
  • Communicate progress, issues, and completion status to internal teams

What You'll Bring

  • 5+ years of hands-on experience in construction or site work
  • Strong background in one or more of:
    • Concrete work (forming, pouring, finishing)
      Masonry or paving
      Carpentry or general site construction
  • Experience reading and executing against:
    • Site plans
    • Layout drawings
  • Ability to perform precise measurement, leveling, and alignment
  • Comfortable operating independently in the field with minimal supervision
  • Proven ability to solve problems on-site as they arise
