AV truck fleets win 5-Year exemption on warning beacons

Einride Autonomous Delivery Product October 15, 2026

Last week Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration announced a five-year exemption allowing autonomous trucks to use cab-mounted beacons in place of traditional roadside warning triangles. Thank you to Administrator Chief Derek Barrs and FMCSA staff for their leadership on this issue. This positive change will make our roads safer and provide regulatory certainty to the autonomous vehicle industry as a whole.

Why this matters for talent

A federal safety exemption that lets autonomous trucks use cab mounted beacons instead of roadside warning triangles removes a real operational friction point for driverless highway runs. Changes like this tend to be followed by hiring in safety case engineering and regulatory affairs as companies prepare to lean on the new rule. Einride does not currently show open roles on the jobs board, so this is a signal worth tracking rather than an active hiring push yet.
