Building a better ride means testing for the extreme
Building a better ride means testing for the extreme. Go behind the scenes with our engineering team to see how we prepare our robotaxis for high-heat environments from two critical angles:
☀️ Perception: Extreme desert heat can alter camera alignments by fractions of a degree, and in autonomous driving, fractions matter. Watch how we simulated indoor solar radiation to ensure precise perception: https://lnkd.in/eC-y5fK7
❄️ Cooling: To keep our IONIQ 5 robotaxi running safely under high-heat environments, our approach was straightforward: keep it simple. Staff Engineer Brian Corpuz breaks down how we engineered a cooler, smarter ride: https://lnkd.in/e4CDv6yU
Two distinct engineering challenges, one non-negotiable goal: total safety in any environment.
Why this matters for talent
Motional showing its heat testing for perception and cooling is a reminder that robotaxi programs need hardware validation and thermal engineers, not only machine learning people. Environmental testing is a good entry point into AV for candidates from automotive or aerospace test backgrounds. Motional has more than 70 open roles on the board.
