What does “real” mean in an age of AI-generated content?
Recently, we had the privilege of hosting Hany Farid, professor of Computer Science at Dartmouth College and expert in digital forensics, forensic science, image analysis, and human perception. He visited our headquarters as part of our TechTalks series, which brings outside experts and fresh perspectives to our Symbotic teams.
With expert-discussant and Symbotic Board member Daniela Rus, Hany took us behind the technology powering synthetic media and deepfakes, exploring how they’re created, how they’re being used and misused, and the challenge of distinguishing AI-generated content from reality. He also shared perspectives on the evolving role of digital forensics and regulation as these tools become more accessible.
Thank you, Hany and Daniela, for an engaging and thought-provoking conversation! Creating the space for our employees to step beyond the day-to-day, explore emerging technology, and ask thoughtful questions, is an essential part of how we keep learning and looking ahead.

Why this matters for talent
This is a brand and thought leadership post about authenticity in an AI content era, with no concrete business or hiring news attached. Symbotic carries 135 open roles on the board regardless, and this post does not change that picture either way.
